Old Blue Prairie Sewing Roll

SOLD! This is such an early looking piece- just like it was made by a pioneer woman on the prairie.
The overall dimensions are 13" high x 7" wide-the main stitched piece is 10" x 4 1/2 " wide.
it is stitched on a piece of tattered old linen wit a bird and rabbits at the top and row of blue and tan quilt motifs on the left side. The scrap of linen band at the top says with my needle- it is dated 1827, The entire piece is heavily coffee dyed and baked to prim perfection. There is a layer of batting between the front and back so it will hold many needles and pins and many skiens of floos can be rolled up inside. The cream colored ribbon closure has been coffe dued also and could be replaced with coffee dyed kitchen string.
The piece is functional as a sewing roll but can also be a hanging sampler or it also looks great laying in an olde trencher. ( The blue fabric is a medium blue and not quire as dark as shown)28.00 plus 3.00 shipping

I Was Planning on Stitching Today....

but when the long awaited plumber called and said he was on his way I gladly put away my stitching!
Three hours later I now have all three sinks functioning once again and both toiletsts flush with out problems!!! I would have continued to stitch but 3 hours with a non stop barking Basset Hound is not conducive to that!
She is now napping having thoroughly worn herself out!
While I was trying to maintain some tiny bit of control over my household I decided I should put some items up for sale so I cam make way for some new!
Look for them to be posted shortly!

Sarah Dow 1848 Sampler

I had a lot of fun designing and stitching this tribute sampler to my great great gandmother Sarah Ellen Jones Dow. She was born in 1838 in Kentucky.
The sampler is not a complete alphabet to represent more accurately how a 10 year old would have made a sampler. There are a few motifs- including the ever popular bird motif!
It is stitched with dark gray, rusty brown and, dark teal blue threads. The bottom photo shows it in a frame- an old frame I just put it into just so I could get an idea of what it would look like. The frame is too large but I actually like the old look it gives the sampler!
The sampler may be purchased as is ready for you to finish into a pillow or put in a frame of your choice ) there is plenty of fabric left around the stitched area) or for a dollar more it can come to you in the old metal frame- with or without glass- the piece is not actually mounted inside the frame- just placed inside and the back put on the frame.
